

The Order of the Republic was established by the goverment`s edict No. 30/1951 from April 3rd, 1951. The outfit of the order was changed in 1977.
Following other orders were established by the above stated edict:
Order of the Republic was awarded for extraordinary merits for building of the Czechoslovak Republic, especially for its peaceful effort in production, during cultural or scientific activitiess or for strenghtening of the defence abilitiis of the country.
The receipient was given a large certifikate and a small booklet.
863 have been awarded in total according to the archiv of the President`s Office. The last order was awarded to minister František Oldřich. The decoration No. 863 was donated to the National Museum.
Order of the Republic - first type - variant until 1960:
Order of the Republic - first type - variant 1960 - 1977:
The decoration of the first type had numbers 1 - 692 (the last one of this type awarded to Prof. MUDr. Petr Rudolf).
Order of the Republic was warn of the left breast side. If only the small ribbon was worn, it was 10 mm wide and 38 mm long.
3.) Order of the Republic - new type after 1977:
Order of the Republic was red square with silver rays, silver circumscribed, 40 mm large. In the middel is a star with the symbol with Czechoslovak Socialist Republic in a pentagon. The revers of the decoration is smooth with engraved number.
The new Type of the order were issued with No. 693 - 863. The first decoration was given to some representants of the communist regime as replacemnt of the previous Types (for example No. 693 to Vasil Bilak, No. 694 to Gustav Husák, No. 695 to Josef Havlín, No. 696 to Karel Hoffman.
Order of the Republic could have been awarded posthumously; in such case the order has been handed over to the family of the recipient.
